A TikTok star was left red-faced this week after interviewing Hollywood director Baz Luhrmann on the street without knowing who he was.
Georgia Godworth was filming a vox pop on the streets of Newtown in Sydney when she encountered a man in a green leather shirt and decided to engage in an impromptu interview with him about dating.
Not knowing who the renowned director was, the content creator accidentally stumbled upon a very exclusive interview with Luhrmann, 61, about his marriage to Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin, 59.
Godworth said she felt humiliated when she uploaded the video to TikTok and discovered she had been speaking to the star, who directed the Hollywood blockbusters Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet and The Great Gatsby.
“I have no idea this was Baz Luhrmann,” he captioned the footage, which began with the famed director hilariously giving the cameraman lighting tips for the interview.
Despite the mistake, Luhrmann seemed to take it all in stride and enjoyed the unorthodox interview.
During the talk, she gave insight into her private and unique marriage to Martin.

Godworth sarcastically said she felt “honored” to talk to him, although she still had no idea who he was.
Viewers of the video flocked to the comments to criticize Godworth for his complete ignorance of who he just spoke to.
“Please tell me you’re joking and that you knew exactly who he was,” one person asked, to which Godworth replied, “I really had no idea.”
Another wrote: ‘I feel like you shouldn’t work in media if you don’t know who Baz Luhrmann is. An insult to this genius.

“Since the pandemic and when we made the Elvis movie in Australia, our work has mostly kept us away from our base in New York City,” Luhrmann told the New York Post’s Gimme Shelter.
“We filmed Elvis entirely on the Gold Coast in Queensland and will continue to develop shows to film there.”
