Aaron Rodgers mocked Jets owner and Trump supporter Woody Johnson over ties to his RFK Jr running mate, comparing it to his retirement into obscurity and calling the reports “a momentary distraction.”

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson dismissed suggestions that Aaron Rodgers might have left football to be vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate.

Johnson, a Donald Trump supporter, insisted his quarterback is fully focused on returning to the field after rupturing his Achilles tendon last season just four minutes into his Jets debut.

But Johnson, 76, may have gone too far for his quarterback’s liking by rejecting ties with the vice president by comparing them to the retreat into obscurity that Rodgers embarked on last year.

“He’s getting back into football 100 percent,” Johnson told FOX News. “He never left football. That (speculation about the running mate) was a momentary distraction, maybe like entering a dark room or whatever.

‘But he’s back to 100 percent. Great leader. I tell the receivers, ‘Count to 10, put your hands up and look around, the ball will be there.’

“If we can keep it going, which I think we can, it will be an exciting start to the season.”

Rodgers went into dark retirement last year during the offseason to consider retirement after the Green Bay Packers failed to make the NFL Playoffs. When he resurfaced after four days, Rodgers decided to play on and secure a trade for him to New York and spoke highly of the impact of his removal from obscurity.

‘What I saw on both the third and the fourth day, I saw myself, my complete being at the end of that journey, on the one hand, and I saw myself complete at the end of that journey, on the other side. “I wasn’t missing anything,” Rodgers said.

But after a summer of extreme excitement in the Big Apple, Rodgers ruptured his Achilles tendon after being tackled by the Buffalo Bills’ Leonard Floyd just minutes into the game.

His left foot became trapped in the turf, his Achilles tendon ruptured, and his season ended as quickly as it began, despite his best efforts to recover if the Jets made the playoffs.

Rodgers, like RFK Jr, is anti-vaccine and is open about his decision not to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Last month, while Rodgers was on an ayahuasca retreat in Costa Rica, the New York Times said the NFL legend was being considered as Kennedy’s running mate.

The report said that Rodgers and RFK Jr. had been talking “pretty continuously” about the Jets star as his running mate, and that the NFL star “welcomed” the discussions.

Johnson, meanwhile, served under Trump as the US ambassador to the UK.
