A British great-grandfather who fought in World War II has become the world’s oldest man at 111 and says the secret to his long life is a fish dinner every Friday.
John Tinniswood, who lives in a Merseyside care home, says having dinner at the weekend and having “everything in moderation” is the way to old age.
The World War II veteran was awarded the new record following the deaths of Juan Vicente Pérez, 114, of Venezuela, and Gisaburō Sonobe, 112, of Japan.
Sonobe lived for more than 41,000 days and for two of them he was the oldest man in the world, and was due to receive the official title before his sudden death.
After 108-year-old Harry Fransman died in September 2020, Tinniswood became the oldest living man in the UK.
