World Cup winner Andre Schurrle left Borussia Dortmund after four years with the club after an agreement was reached to terminate his contract.

The 29-year-old, who lifted the World Cup with Germany in 2014, has become a free agent after 51 games for the Bundesliga outfit since 2016.

Schurrle had another year on his deal with Dortmund, but the club announced his departure on Wednesday.

“Looking back, it was a time of many ups and downs and a valuable experience, both sportively and privately,” Schurrle said in a statement about the official club website.

“I want to thank the bosses of the club and wish the club and its special fans all the best for the future.”

Schurrle transferred from Wolfsburg to Dortmund in July 2016 for a five-year deal, scoring eight goals and 10 assists during his time with the club.

The winger spent his last two seasons with Dortmund on loan from Fulham and Spartak Moscow, but he hasn’t played since December after sustaining an injury during his stay in Russia.

Schurrle has played over 50 Premier League games since his spell at Craven Cottage and prior to his spell at Chelsea.

The German spent two years at Stamford Bridge, winning the Premier League and League Cup in 2015.
