World Cup: Neymar impersonator seen in the stands taking selfies during Brazil game

Fake Neymar strikes again: Impersonator who tricked FOX Sports into believing he was the real deal is spotted in the stands taking selfies with fans during Brazil’s victory over Switzerland (while the player himself was watching on TV!)

An extremely convincing Neymar impersonator has been spotted again at the World Cup in Qatar – this time during one of Brazil’s matches.

The impersonator was caught on camera in the stands during half-time of Brazil’s win in its second Group G match against Switzerland on Monday.

Fans clamored around him and he even appeared to be escorted by security personnel wearing yellow bibs and lanyards.

Spectators quickly pulled out their phones to snap photos, assuming they got to see the soccer star up close and personal. The fake Neymar even stopped to take a selfie with some.

Photo agencies were even tricked into thinking they had caught the attacker when they circulated photos of the impersonator, captioned “Brazilian footballer Neymar.”

The real Neymar was not on the pitch as he faces a battle to rejoin the World Cup after injuring his ankle in Brazil’s opening match after a heavy tackle from Serbia defender Nikola Milenkovic.

In fact, he was nowhere near Stadium 974 as he continues to recover. He posted a photo to his Instagram story of his foot, wrapped in a compression shoe, standing upright on a bed with a television screen in the background showing his teammates singing the Brazilian national anthem before the game started. He wrote “Boraaaa,” which translates to “Let’s go.”

He was seen in tears as he stumbled around the Brazilian bench during Brazil’s opener and was treated with ice packs.

It is expected that he will not play Brazil’s last group matches, including against Cameroon.

The 30-year-old shared a photo on his Instagram on Saturday showing that his ankle was still swollen.

This isn’t the first time the fake Neymar has struck either. He previously cheated on FOX Sports last week.

The broadcaster tweeted a clip of the iconic Brazil striker – who was reduced to tears when a challenge in the 2-0 win over Serbia injured his ankle – walking through Doha being mobbed by fans.

“Neymar walking around Doha,” FOX wrote on Twitter alongside the accompanying footage, where “Neymar” appeared to be escorted through a crowd by a member of the Brazilian entourage, decked out in team uniform.

Except, of course, it wasn’t Neymar, which a number of football fans jumped on the tweet to point out.

And to be fair to FOX, it saw the funny side. “UPDATE: We got,” it wrote. “Neymar has a very convincing doppelgänger” alongside some crying with laughter emojis.

Fox also poked fun at himself after the latest sighting of the fake Neymar, posting the impersonator’s clip to the game with the caption, “Oh look, that’s definitely Neymar in the stands for the game against Brazil.”

A Seleção secured their place in the last 16 with a 1-0 win over Switzerland after Casemiro found the back of the net in the second half.
