The Office is back in Australia with its first female lead. Where a report from Deadline Prime Video Australia has given the go-ahead to make a new remake of The Office, which will premiere in 2024.
Comedian Felicity Ward is set to star in the series, playing Hannah Howard, manager of Flinley Craddick’s packaging company. The series will include a plot dealing with remote working, as Howard tries to keep her “work family” together after learning that the company plans to close its branch and shift everyone to working from home.
In addition to Ward, the cast also includes Edith Burr, Steen Raskopoulos, Shari Sibbins, Josh Thompson, Johnny Brough, Pallavi Sharda, Susan Ling Young, Raj Lapid, Lucy Schmidt and Firas Dirani.
This is the first time in the many versions of The Office that have been made that a woman will play the lead. The role of the manager was originally popularized by Ricky Gervais’ character David Brent, but the most famous version is Steve Carell’s character Michael Scott.
The US version of The Office ended in 2013, and there have been talks of a new reboot. Last year, The Office creator Greg Daniels compared his robot idea to The Mandalorian, saying it would be an “extension of the universe.”
