An employee at Home Depot rival LL Flooring has revealed how the store “tricks” customers into renovating their homes.

California-based Tony Garcia took to TikTok to share his insider knowledge on how the flooring giant operates.

The worker explained that the corporation updates the clicking mechanism on its floors every two to three years, forcing anyone with the older versions to replace the entire floor in case of any damage, rather than just the affected boards.

The plan, he says, raises the price of a single floor box to more than $1,000.

Garcia is among the workers who have lost their jobs due to the company’s recent problems. His store is one of dozens that are closing as part of a last-minute plan to save the company from bankruptcy.

‘My company is closing down and I’m going to lose my job in a couple of months, so I’m going to tell you some interesting facts.

‘Vinyl and laminate are upgraded every two or three years, maybe even faster if they can manage it, to force people to buy a whole new floor, if they don’t have a single box lying around.

‘So, do you have a broken pipe in your kitchen or something? You have a leak and you have three broken boards?’

“Sorry, you have to buy $1,000 of new flooring, (or) $2,000, (or) $3,000 of new flooring, if you have to get someone to install it,” and that’s on purpose.

He went on to share: ‘We change clips every two or three years, and when I say clips, I mean the clicking mechanism that these little things go into.

‘Even if it’s the exact same floor, the exact same size and everything, they will intentionally design it to not be compatible at all with the latest model or brand.’

The employee warns customers, saying, ‘I tell every person who comes in here to buy an extra box or two, and they always give me a look like, “Do I really need that?”

“Yes, you do need it. Because you’re going to spend 10 years from now, weeks, months, an eternity, trying to find that apartment that they stopped making, that they made on purpose, to try to get you to buy more apartment for more money.”

Tony captioned the video: “They don’t care about you and they definitely don’t care about their employees.”
