Woolworths shopper sparks controversy after seeing ‘surprising’ detail in cash register dispenser

Shopper sparks discussion after seeing ‘surprising’ detail in Woolworths cash register dispensers – so did YOU know?

  • A Woolworths shopper saw a catalog in a partition at checkout
  • Jennifer Kingi shared a viral TikTok video of her looking at the room divider
  • She said she had never seen a pamphlet inside and asked other shoppers if they did?

A Woolworths shopper has sparked a debate on social media after she spotted a random detail in a room divider at checkout.

Queensland mother Jennifer Kingi shared a viral TikTok video after she saw a catalog in the distributor while waiting in line to pay for her groceries.

“I was years old today when I realized this. Did you ever notice that there was a pamphlet in it?’ she said, pointing to the rolled-up catalog in the clear divider.

“Why didn’t I notice this before?”

A Woolworths spokesperson said a cardboard insert usually goes into a distributor, but a team member probably had used a catalog to make it “conspicuous” at checkout.

“These dividers are used to separate the groceries of customers,” the Woolworths spokesperson told the Daily Mail Australia.

“Because the divider is transparent, inserting an insert or catalog makes it easily visible to our team members and customers.”

Her video has been viewed more than 460,000 times, and many gave their own explanations as to why something was in the distributor.

“It’s because if there’s nothing in it (if the cardboard is lost in it), the scanner won’t recognize it and the conveyor belt will keep moving,” one wrote.

While another said: ‘If there’s nothing in it, sometimes the sensor that stops the conveyor belt doesn’t pick it up.’

However, one woman suggested that an employee might have placed a catalog in the distributor “for funsies” so that it had nothing to do with the assembly line.

“They were probably just doing a new promotion and haven’t received the cardboard insert,” she said.
