Australian supermarket shoppers are conflicted over the launch of Woolworths’ new limited edition mud pie, with many criticizing the controversial flavour.
Woolworths recently launched a pumpkin spice mud pie ($7) ahead of Halloween that combines the flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg and is topped with chocolate ganache and crumbled pecan cookie.
Australian shoppers believe the treat is an autumn special and should not be sold in stores just as the country heads into summer.
“It doesn’t make sense for Australia at this time of year,” said one.
“Pumpkin spice is fall and it’s spring here,” echoed another.
“This is wrong,” one man wrote. “I’m very confused about them releasing this in the spring.”
Another added: “I love pumpkin spice lattes but this one didn’t taste like that.” It tasted like carrot cake.
But Melbourne-based food critic Nick Vavitis rated the special edition cake a ’14 out of 10′ and said it was a must-try.

Woolworths recently launched a Pumpkin Spice Mud Pie ($7) ahead of Halloween that combines the warm flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg.
“It smells amazing – the cake tastes exactly like a Starbucks pumpkin spice latte,” Nick praised in a video.
“You have to really like pumpkin, and I love this one,” he said.
‘It doesn’t have much nutmeg, it has a nice cinnamon flavor and is very sweet. I also really like the sweet pumpkin spice glaze on top.
Hundreds more people were eager to get their hands on the limited edition cake.
“I went to three different Woolworths stores but none of them had it,” one lamented.
“Can’t wait to try this, it looks delicious,” said another.
