Shocking footage has emerged of the moment a Woolworths shopper smashed the supermarket’s perplexing self-checkout doors with a hammer.
The woman is believed to be part of an activist group known as “The Whistlebowers, Activists and Communities Alliance.”
“Weary customers are taking matters into their own hands at Moorabin Woolworths today, trying to disable the shopping giant’s new security barriers,” reads the Instagram caption accompanying the video.
“The doors are part of a highly controversial security overhaul aimed at preventing theft during a cost of living crisis.
“Customers are held inside the mall by a locked door until they can prove they have paid for their goods.”
The group accused Woolworths of making “higher profits than ever before” during the Covid period.
“As people struggle to put food on the table and take care of their families, Woolworths pays its CEO more than $20,000 a day,” the Instagram post said.
“Woolworths has also been accused of exploiting the public by dramatically increasing prices as families struggle to put food on the table.
“Further escalations are likely and could cost the company thousands of dollars, repairing not only its security features but also its image.”
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Woolworths and Victoria Police for comment.
Australians were quick to criticize the buyer’s actions on social media platform X.
“This is not good,” one wrote.
“It’s not the staff, like my son who works there to support himself while he studies, who make these decisions.

“Most employees hate it as much as all of you do. Boycott, complain to upper management, whatever. Do not traumatize staff in the workplace.
“This is just vandalism, plain and simple,” said another. “You’re complaining about price gouging, but you think it’s no big deal?
“You realize that we, the customers, also pay for this behavior, if you don’t like their security store elsewhere. Simple. They are doing this to stop theft, we all pay.
“This is simply abusive and creates an unsafe workplace for the lowest paid casual retail staff.” Take your violent protest to decision-makers, not to ordinary citizens.
