Commonwealth Games medalist Jaismine Lamboria won her first fight against Tanzania’s Nyambega Beatrice Ambros via an RSC verdict at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi on Friday. Shashi Chopra (63kg) continued India’s winning momentum by pulling off a 5-0 win over Kenya’s Mwangi Teresiah.
India, however, suffered their first casualty when Shruti Yadav (70kg), who had replaced Sanamacha Chanu, succumbed to a 0-5 defeat at the hands of China’s Zhou Pan.
Competing in the 60kg event, Jaismine, who won bronze at the 2022 CWG Birmingham, needed less than 90 seconds to finish the fight. The Indian was at her belligerent best when she unleashed a series of punches on her opponent. The referee gave the Tanzanian boxer two counts before he was forced to stop the bout.

It was the third RSC win by an Indian boxer in the tournament. On opening day, reigning champion Nikhat Zareen and Preeti had won after their respective bouts were stopped by the referee.
Jaismine will face Samadova Mijgona from Tajikistan in the next round.
Shashi also dominated their fight. The Indian proved to be too strong for her opponent, as he used her skillful jabs and his stern defense to win the fight handily. He will face 2022 Asian Championships silver medalist Kito Mai of Japan in the round of 16.
“This is my comeback event, I hadn’t played the last few nationals as well due to injury. But this time at nationals I won gold. This is my first international competition at 63kg,” Shashi said after their fight.

In the last Indian bout of the day, Shruti, who was handicapped due to his height, threw a lot of punches but couldn’t land. He struggled with his balance as his Chinese opponent used his long reach to keep Shruti at bay, as he won the fight easily.
CWG Champion Nitu Ghanghas (48kg) and Manju Bamboriya (66kg) will kick off their campaign on Saturday.
