A woman’s body has been recovered in a popular beach town as temperatures soared to 71F.
Emergency services were called to the beach in Chalkwell, Essex at about 10:15 am this morning following reports of a person in difficulty.
A section of the beach was closed when Essex Police, Southend Coast Guard, the air ambulance and the RNLI arrived on the scene.

Officers later confirmed that a woman had died.
A spokesman for Essex Police said the unidentified woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
They added: ‘This morning, Monday, June 7, at 10:15 a.m., we received a call from Coast Guard colleagues about concerns about the well-being of a woman in the water.
‘We arrived and unfortunately found a woman had died.
‘We are on site with colleagues from the ambulance service and will provide a further update as soon as possible.’
Witnesses suggested the beach was already crowded with sunbathers when police arrived this morning, according to the Evening standard.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: ‘I can confirm that EEAST responded to an emergency call related to an incident in Chalkwell shortly after 10am.
“We have sent an ambulance and two fast rescue vehicles to the scene.
“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of all involved, the patient died.”
