A woman who suffered from mysterious cold symptoms for almost a year discovered her reusable water bottle was making her sick.
Karyn Smith Wilson of Elmhurst, Illinois, began going to the gym again whenever she recovered, but “within a week the illness came back.”
She would then be attacked by fevers, pain, breathing difficulties and fatigue.
Through the process of elimination, Wilson realized that the only thing that had changed in his routine was a new metal water bottle he had purchased to use while working out.
Doctors told DailyMail.com that metal water bottles sometimes contain lead and cadmium, highly toxic metals and other chemicals linked to health problems.

Speaking about her ordeal in a TikTok video, Ms Wilson goes on to point out that a future incident reaffirmed her suspicions.
She revealed: ‘I kept (the bottle) in the hope that one day they would try it.’ (Later) I accidentally used it one day, months later, on a bike ride.
“The next day I had the same symptoms as always.”
Speaking to DailyMail.com, internationally recognized and respected food policy expert Darin Detwiler confirmed that metal water bottles can “potentially make someone sick due to contamination or even poor quality materials.”
He added: “In rare cases, they may contain harmful substances such as lead or cadmium, which can leach into the water.
‘In addition, inadequate hygiene can lead to the build-up of bacteria, especially in cracks or straws, which contributes to disease.
“Plastic bottles have also raised concerns about chemicals like BPA, which can leach into liquids, and improper cleaning of either material can harbor bacteria or mold.”
After remembering the symptoms caused by the metal water bottle, Karyn never used it again and threw it away.
She confirmed in the comments section that the bottle was from home goods brand Oggi, which sells products through Amazon and other sites.
The California native said she decided to share her story in an attempt to warn others, and her video has since been viewed more than 1 million times.
