A woman who underwent cosmetic surgery after giving birth has defended her decision to have a “mommy makeover” after coming under a raft of criticism.

Nika Diwa, 35, an influencer from Houston, Texas, underwent a procedure known as AirSculpt Body Contouring in May after the birth of her second daughter.

She explained in a YouTube video that pregnancy left her with excess skin on her stomach, so she decided to remove it.

But after opening up about her decision to go under the knife in a brutally honest video, Nika said she was subjected to a series of “nasty messages”.

She was then forced to defend her actions, while reminding other new moms that sometimes it’s okay to be “selfish.”

“So I did something and I was too scared to tell you,” he said. ‘I don’t know why I’m so nervous. I got a mommy makeover.

‘My babies were very big and had a lot of skin. Why was I so excited to share (my pregnancy) with you but I’m embarrassed to share with you that (I had a cosmetic procedure)?

‘I’m in a place where I feel safe enough to dedicate myself for once. I feel like there needs to be room for a woman to be selfish.

“So I got a mommy makeover and I’m so proud of it.”

In YouTubeNika added that she was “always the one who said she would never get a cosmetic procedure” because she felt they were “unnecessary.”

But becoming a mother for the second time changed everything.

‘Moms, we sacrifice everything for our families. We are always the last. Our bodies, goodbye,’ he said.

“I had two babies and my (breasts) were down here,” she added, pointing to her waist.

‘I could wear them like a belt. My belly, there was so much skin that I could hide inside my skin like a turtle if I wanted to.

‘Thank God (there are) tools and resources so that we can put back together, tighten and adjust the pieces that have been broken.’

But after talking about it online, Nika confessed in a follow-up that she had received a number of unpleasant responses from her viewers.

“Received some nasty messages about my choice to have surgery so here’s another update,” she captioned a video of herself showing off her post-op body.

“I’m proud of the decisions I’ve made and we have to destigmatize these things.”

“I’m seeing tons of influencers post this right now and it makes me so sad that this is what everyone, when they have the power to influence, chooses to normalize,” read one negative comment on her videos.

‘This should not be the norm. Self-mutilation is not self-love. I see so many influencers pushing this right now and it’s so sad…” another user said.

“You look great, I wish you didn’t feel like you had to do this,” someone else wrote.

“Please, please be careful what you do to your body just because of social standards,” another person encouraged.

“You could have gone to the gym,” another comment read.
