Jessyca resorted to emotional eating to cope with her feelings and explained how she saw food as a ‘refuge’ and constantly thought of food all day long – even from the moment she woke up in the morning.
She gained 134 pounds in just four years, weighing 288 pounds.
“The biggest reason for my weight gain was emotional,” she said. During the transition from adolescence to adult life, I felt lost and distant from myself.
“I always had peaks and dips with my weight, but I never thought I would one day become morbidly obese.
“In about four years, I went from a healthy life to obese. I had an appetite, it was my refuge. Food was the only thing I enjoyed every day.
“I was about to wake up and my first thought to eat was scary.
“When I had lunch, I was already thinking about dessert, I didn’t drink a lot of water and instead replaced it with soda.
“I had to eat at least one big chocolate bar every day.”
In June 2019, Jessyca underwent bariatric surgery to reduce the size of her stomach and effectively reduce her food intake.

Of her new healthy lifestyle, Jessyca said, “When I started gaining weight, I secretly ate.
“I didn’t want to eat sweets in front of people and get judged for that and that made my relationship with food worse.
‘Today I have the freedom to choose to keep the balance, especially after the first months of bariatric who really have to follow the risk.
“I now devote myself to bodybuilding style training five times a week.”
