  • She had ‘longer, thicker’ hair that she was conditioning and also shaving.

A woman was left baffled after her partner shamed her for taking a long shower, accusing her of wasting water.

“Are you an idiot for taking a 26 minute shower?” the woman titled a post on Reddit’s popular AmItheA**hole forum.

“My partner was furious at how long I spent in the shower,” he began.

She explained that she has ‘long, thick hair’ and was taking a ‘full body shower’, including ‘washing, conditioning my hair, shaving everything, washing my body, my face and then getting out’.

“Are you an idiot for taking a 26 minute shower?” the woman titled a post on Reddit’s popular AmItheA**hole forum.

“My partner told me that they left the tap running while I was in the shower and asked me if I realised how much water was wasted then,” she continued.

“I asked him how he could listen to that race while he was in the shower,” to which his partner replied, “Exactly.”

It was unclear what her partner meant by leaving the tap running while she was showering.

He then looked at how many songs on his playlist he had listened to while showering and calculated that he had been showering for a little over 25 minutes.

The woman went on to clarify that only the two of them live in the house, which has two full bathrooms.

He had showered the night before, while she had showered that morning and they “had no plans for the day.”

She clarified: ‘I take this long shower once every three or four days, I don’t shower every day (because I work from home), but if I do, I last less than 10 minutes with a washed body and washed hair for a normal wash.’

He then asked Reddit: ‘AITA for taking 26 minutes to take a “full body” shower?’ – AITA being short for ‘Am I an idiot?’

Across nearly 5,000 people, the consensus was that the woman was not wrong, with many calling her NTA (short for Not The A**hole).

Across nearly 5,000 comments, the broad consensus was that the woman in the situation was NTA (Not The A**hole).

“NTA. You think you’re responsible for wasting water, but you left the water running the whole time? Worst water surveillance ever,” stated one of the most voted comments.

A second narrated: ‘NTA. My friend was complaining that his girlfriend takes too long in the shower, five minutes should be enough. I asked my other friend, who is a bald, hairy guy with pretty bad skin and sometimes smelly, “how long do you take in the shower?” ‘Five minutes,’ he replied. He turned to my complaining friend and said, “So you want your girlfriend to look like him?” Enough with the complaining.

A third chimed in: “Don’t worry. Your partner intentionally wasted water to ‘teach you a lesson’. That’s terrifying logic and secondly, if you don’t pay the water bill, that’s really stupid. If you do pay the water bill, I would ask them to compensate you for wasting water.”

To this, the woman replied that she was actually the one paying the water bill and that she still did not understand why her partner had turned on the tap in the sink next to the shower to prove his point.

A fourth echoed: ‘NOT, that’s not a very long shower to comb your hair, shave, etc. I shower for 15 or 20 minutes without washing my hair. And those who say you have to turn it off between each step… what’s wrong? And freeze?’

A fifth agreed: “It’s not a problem. If you have long hair, it’s not long. But it’s not about how long your shower is. Your partner doesn’t own you and you’re not their slave. You’re equal partners. You can decide for yourselves how long you need to shower.”
