“Here’s why restaurants give you a bowl of fries or bread before your meals,” she captioned the clip.
She noted that you don’t get bona fide bread, noting that this was actually a tactic used to get you to spend more money.
“It’s not because they want you to stock up on free stuff, and they’re not generous,” she said.
“It’s actually a way for them to take more money.”
Denise explained that as soon as you sit down you are greeted with a menu and a bowl of bread.
So you end up eating the bread while reading the menu.
“When you sit down in a restaurant, not only do they hand you a menu, but they also hand you the bowl of bread,” she said.
When you start indulging in bread, it spikes your blood sugar levels, which makes you hungrier, Denise added.

This will make it harder for you to refuse other foods, which will make you order more than usual.
“They know that a spike in glucose is going to make you hungrier, craving more, and having a hard time resisting food,” Denise noted.
At the end of the clip, she added, “So although they look like they’re being generous, they’re actually winning.”
“You order more food, they bring you more bread, then give you a dessert that’s almost impossible to resist.”
According to Bistro MD, when you eat bread, your body releases insulin.
This will cause the body to need more food to balance out the drop in insulin.
