A honeymoon is supposed to be the most romantic and relaxing getaway you’ve ever had, but things don’t always go as planned.
Lisa Pickering, originally from the UK but moved to Singapore, was one such bride whose celebratory holiday was beset by disaster.
She revealed that her dream had always been to visit Rome and that she had planned an extensive Italian itinerary for her and her husband after they got married.
But the former primary school teacher has now candidly explained where it all went wrong.

The morning after getting married, Lisa and her new husband flew from London to Rome to embark on their romantic getaway with plans to visit all the famous landmarks and feast on Italian delicacies.
The morning after getting married, Lisa and her new husband flew from London to Rome to embark on their romantic getaway with plans to visit all the famous landmarks and feast on Italian delicacies.
But they hit their first stumbling block early on.
Lisa, who found out she was pregnant just weeks before the wedding, said Insider: “I was exhausted from socializing and dealing with morning sickness…all I wanted to do was sleep – growing a baby is pretty exhausting.”
She candidly revealed that since this was her first child, she was very worried about what she could and couldn’t eat during pregnancy.
This meant that instead of sampling the best food and drink this tourist hotspot had to offer, she was content to “hunt for fruits and vegetables.”
In the days that followed, Lisa and her husband “mustered up the energy to go sightseeing” – mostly on foot.
She wrote that it was “a challenge to do while battling nausea during an August heatwave.”
And things got even worse after a pickpocket stole her husband’s laptop.

Having finally reached the Trevi Fountain (stock image), the exasperated duo discovered that it was under repair, meaning it was empty of water and surrounded by scaffolding.

The couple later welcomed a healthy baby boy after adding another son to their brood a few years later.
“Spending half the day filing a police report was not the best start to the trip I had imagined all these years,” Lisa conceded.

Lisa and her husband decided to rent a car to admire the scenery of Sorrento, Positano and Capri.
But before leaving, they crossed the Italian capital to collect their luggage from the hotel and check out.
She wrote: “Unfortunately we did not realize that we had crossed a restricted traffic zone, a restricted area common in old European cities and that you need permission to cross.
“We received a hefty fine which we ignored because we thought it was a scam. The collection letters that followed would prove no.
Lisa, who is also a trained music therapist, concluded: “I’ve been dreaming of visiting Italy for years, but I guess my expectations will never live up to reality.”
