A woman claimed she carefully cared for a sick ‘baby hedgehog’ overnight and discovered it was a fluffy hat pom pom when she rushed it to an animal hospital.

The animal lover claims she found what she thought was an injured creature on the sidewalk and “spent a night caring for it,” even though it was slightly lighter and fluffier than the spiky creature.

The next morning, she carried what she believed to be a motionless mammal to the Lower Moss Wood Nature Reserve and Wildlife Hospital, in Knutsford, Cheshire, in a box meticulously lined with newspaper and even placed a small plate of food in the box. side, as she remained by his bed.

But when hospital director Janet Kotze opened the box, she realized the “hedgehog” actually belonged to a woolly hat.

Kotze said he “couldn’t believe what he was seeing” when he made the discovery.

Hospital director Janet Kotze (pictured) said she “couldn’t believe what I was seeing” when she made the discovery.

And when she revealed the news to the rescuer, the embarrassed woman said: ‘You’re kidding.’

The animal lover timidly left the animal hospital, box in hand.

Mrs. Kotze, amused, said: “It was the first admission of the day.” The lady came in with a box, said that she had found a baby hedgehog on the sidewalk and that it was cold and she picked it up.

“I was alarmed because it is very early for baby hedgehogs.

‘I opened the box and, well, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I thought “it’s definitely not a hedgehog, maybe it’s some other kind of furry creature.”

‘I realized it had no animation at all and I picked it up and obviously with the weight I could feel that it wasn’t a hedgehog or any animal at all.

‘She was so sweet, bless her, her heart was in the right place.

‘He took the box from me and left quite quickly.

“I thought it was funny afterwards, but I couldn’t believe what I was seeing because to me a hedgehog is obviously a hedgehog.

“I don’t think he’ll make the same mistake again, I think he’ll check it out next time.”

Janet said: “It’s a rule of thumb that hedgehogs shouldn’t be outside during the day, especially the smaller ones, but she did absolutely the right thing, apart from the fact that it wasn’t a hedgehog.”

“Most of the time, if they are discovered during the day and outdoors, something is definitely wrong and they need to be taken to rescue.”
