A young woman has been relentlessly trolled and attacked after sharing her “woke” PhD thesis online.
Cambridge professor Dr Ally Louks sparked a backlash on X, formerly Twitter, over the weekend after proudly posting her thesis, titled ‘Olfactory Ethics: The Politics of Smell in Modern and Contemporary Prose’ .
Holding up a hardcover copy of the thesis, Dr Louks wrote: “I am delighted to say that I passed my viva without corrections and am officially a PhD.”
He later added: “To clarify for anyone unfamiliar with academia, I have a PhD in English literature, not a PhD in olfactory ethics; that is the topic of my thesis that earned me the PhD.”
Instead of being congratulated for her achievements, Dr. Louks’ post was met with waves of vitriol from right-wing trolls determined to belittle her education.
“You would have spent your years better getting married and having children,” one troll commented.
Another wrote: ‘Imagine having a brain so sick and rotten by leftism? Phew.’
One troll even sent Dr. Louks vile threats of sexual assault, which she was forced to report to the police.

‘To be clear, this is where I draw the line. “This is abhorrent and illegal and no one should have to deal with this,” he wrote.
Despite the backlash, Dr. Louks has also received waves of support on social media.
‘The recent elections have liberals wondering if perhaps the wokeness has gone too far. “This thread, the sheer vitriol directed at a woman celebrating her personal achievement, should make us wonder if maybe the woke hasn’t gone too far,” one wrote.
‘The vitriol in this post is very bleak. “Women can’t post about their accomplishments without being harassed by misogynists,” wrote a second.
‘My first thought was “what a useless PhD”, and then I saw all the misogynists in the replies shouting about female education and that I should have babies instead. Go, girl, get that useless doctorate!’ added another.
A fourth commented: “A large number of people are insulting and mocking a seemingly nice lady who is proud to have a PhD, proving that the worst thing you can be on social media is to be serious and vulnerable, especially if you are a woman “. ‘
Another wrote: “A serious, studious and hardworking woman, she dedicates her life to interesting and valuable knowledge for its own sake rather than being a foolish and servile housewife.” And guys whose knowledge of the world doesn’t extend beyond UFC stats and cryptocurrencies are losing their minds. Pure misogyny.’
As a result of the vitriol, Dr. Louks said she planned to leave X soon for BlueSky, which is known for having a more progressive bent compared to the Elon Musk-owned X.

While Dr. Louks is proud of her doctorate, not everyone is so happy to have spent years pursuing higher education.
Discussing her ordeal with Business Insider, a woman named A. Rasberry said she has $250,000 in student loan debt after earning a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate in business management from Saint Leo University in Florida.
Despite her impressive credentials, the 38-year-old has not found a job in her field of study for four years.
“I graduated with my PhD in 2020 and I can’t find a job to save my life,” he admitted.
“I am overqualified for most entry-level positions, but I am not qualified for management or leadership positions,” she added.
After failing to find work, Rasberry has had to turn to nursing to make ends meet.
“I thought education was the path to financial freedom, but I was wrong,” she said.
