A fire at a Manhattan apartment claimed the life of a woman who lived there early Friday morning, authorities said.
The FDNY said it responded to a call at 12:35 am about smoke coming from a second-floor apartment in a building on E. 31st St. near Park Ave. South in Kips Bay.
The woman, described by police as an adult, died at the scene.
Police said the fire does not appear to be suspicious and that she may have been overcome by smoke.
