A woman has been criticized for wearing a tight-fitting thigh-high slit dress to her own sister’s wedding.

The 28-year-old, who did not reveal her real name, took to Reddit’s Wedding Shaming thread to unravel the details of the family feud.

She claimed that her sister, 23, was unhappy because the guest “was wearing a ‘better dress’ even though she approved of it the day before.”

The anonymous woman, believed to be American, admitted the bride “had a problem” with her choice of outfit, and other social media users were quick to see why.

The 28-year-old, who did not reveal her real name, took to Reddit’s Wedding Shaming thread to unravel the details of the family feud.

In the post, which was shared earlier this week, the woman began: ‘I have a sister who just got married. They invited me as a guest to her wedding.

‘The day before her wedding I was showing her the dress I was going to wear to the wedding and she said it was beautiful.

“The dress was a little black dress with a little sparkle and a corset.”

But he stated that things changed that same day.

“When I got to the reception, she was a little stunned and came up to me saying something like “oh wow, I didn’t know you were actually going to use it” and then she laughed, but I could see in her face that “I had a problem.” with that,” he continued.

‘Throughout the wedding I saw her giving me these strange looks.

“And one time during the wedding I saw her talking to some people and at one point they all just looked at me and gave me a dirty look.”

The wedding guest explained: “Since then, she is no longer the same to me.

She claimed her sister, 23, was unhappy because the guest was “wearing a ‘better dress’ (in the photo) even though she approved of it the day before.”

“Honestly, I don’t think she did anything wrong and I think she was overreacting, especially since she literally approved of the dress, so I don’t know why she changed her mind so quickly.”

She later shared a photo of the dress in question, which was a low-cut black midi dress with a high side slit.

And the post was quickly flooded with comments as mSome users agreed with the bride and argued that the dress was not appropriate for the wedding.

One person wrote: ‘Honestly… did you show him the dress (on) your body or just on the hanger? Many dresses with sheer bodices and/or cut-outs can look much more “modest” hanging down.

“It’s a beautiful dress and you look gorgeous, but for the most part (depending on the timing and theme of the wedding), it just crosses the line for appropriate wedding attire.”

Another person wrote: ‘Exactly. The bodice wouldn’t look as sheer on the hanger because the front and back of the dress would be layered.

‘And you wouldn’t be able to tell how wide the opening is if the fabric was hanging on the hanger. This is a club dress.

A third person commented: ‘You should know that your description of the dress as “this little black dress with a little sparkle and a corset” is very misleading at best.

‘If you had to honestly describe the dress, you would say it’s a strapless sparkly black dress with an almost hip-length slit.

“I have no idea how the other guests were dressed, and you obviously look great in the dress, but to me the dress says party or club, not family wedding.

—You also know very well that if what you showed him was the dress hanging on a hanger, you never actually showed him the dress. I doubt her problem was ‘better dress’. It looks more like the ‘main character syndrome dress’.

A fourth person added: ‘This would look fantastic at a New Year’s party. Not appropriate for a wedding.

‘I think the dress looks great on you. I don’t know if it’s really appropriate for a wedding. “That’s a LOT of leg for a wedding,” another person wrote.

One person commented: ‘If your sister got married in Vegas then you’re fine. Otherwise, you owe him a serious apology.

But, on the other hand, there were those who sided with the guest.

One commenter wrote: ‘The dress is beautiful and looks great on you. Maybe it’s a small club for a wedding. But if she approved it, then she is simply angry because she regrets her decision.

‘It’s not your fault. You did the right thing by asking. She answered. She acted on her response.

Another person wrote: ‘At the end of the day, your sister approved a dress and then said, ‘I didn’t think you’d actually wear it.’ That’s crazy. And she’s just being a hater.’

A third commenter wrote: ‘The point is that she checked with her sister first to make sure she was okay. I think my sister didn’t realize how good it would look on her.

One person wrote: ‘Personally I don’t think the dress is suitable for a wedding. However, she said that she was fine with it, so she shouldn’t act like that. She could have told you before that she’s not okay with it.

Another commenter added: ‘Did your sister set you up just so she could take you down? Does she play these kinds of mind games?

‘Well, either way, it’s not necessary. You checked with her. You took her answer at face value and the rest is up to her. You can’t mess with two-sided manipulations and you don’t have time for nonsense.

‘Don’t believe their nonsense. “She is thriving on drama.”

One commenter wrote: ‘Everyone says the dress is inappropriate. The girlfriend literally said the day before that she was fine?!?!?!?’

Following the widespread backlash, the wedding guest posted a series of clarifications, adding: “First of all, I’m also happily married, so I have nothing to do with getting married.” Secondly, no jealousy, no drama, no nothing.

‘And thirdly, these are the only types of dresses I bought and she literally agreed to them beforehand, so it wasn’t a big surprise or anything.

‘My family and I are Dominican so we like to dress extra for events and believe me when I say her dress was extra. Others were dressed “worse.”
