A woman revealed how her first holiday with a new boyfriend went from romantic to nightmare after a drunken queue sent her directly to jail.
British deep-fryer Donna Miles was with her boyfriend from a few months in New York to attend a wedding and meet his family, when a lover's quarrel led to her arrest in 2016.
Donna was sent to jail and could have received a five-year prison sentence for breaking her friend's phone and opposing the arrest.
After a tense night in which she feared the worst, Donna was released with a $ 425 fine.
She tells her story in the episode of 5Star's Young, Dumb and Banged Up in the Sun tonight, in which she reveals that the incident has not caused too much damage to the thriving relationship, as the couple is getting married now.
Deep-fryer Donna Miles, from the UK, was on holiday in New York in 2016 with her boyfriend of a few months, when a drunken line led to her arrest
Donna and her boyfriend had been together for a few months when they traveled to the US to attend his best friend's wedding.
The couple traveled to his hometown of Connecticut prior to the wedding in the state of New York so that she could be introduced to his relatives.
& # 39; He said he loved me so much that he wanted me to meet his entire family, & # 39; she said.
& # 39; I hoped to make a good impression with all his friends, because I hoped they would welcome me. & # 39;
While their time abroad started very well, the couple quickly had a fight during the rehearsal dinner.
Donna said she had used alcohol to calm her nerves, and drank vodka lemonades and then Sambuca shots.
Donna, in the photo, said she had used courage for alcohol when she met her new friend's friends and family, but ended up drunk
After a few drinks the couple started to argue and her friend told Donna that he loved her less than his ex-partner, who forced her to leave the dinner.
Things escalated when the couple screamed into the room of their chic hotel and someone informed the police.
Donna, who had broken her friend's phone during the line, was arrested for the damage.
& # 39; At this point I was very intoxicated, I was a little shaky, & # 39; Donna explained.
Because she was drunk, Donna did not fully understand the seriousness of the situation, and while her friend tried to intervene, officers arrested her and took her.
& # 39; I was in the back of that police car and thought & # 39; what the hell did I do & # 39 ;, she remembered.
& # 39; I was really upset, I didn't want to be there, I didn't want to be arrested, it was just something very stupid and very small.
Donna revealed that she then made it worse by trying to escape from the police car.
Donna explained that she was upset and disoriented and resisted arrest, so far she drove away from the police car before she was tackled by an officer
& # 39; I had something like & # 39; oh my god, i can't be arrested during her first couple vacation, & said Donna.
She managed to get her way out of the police car, but was immediately stuck to the floor by a police officer and after more trouble, she was locked up to wait for her.
Donna was subsequently charged with damaging her friend's phone and resisting her arrest, and had to pay a $ 2,100 deposit to be released.
Donna had broken the phone from the only person she knew in the US, and no one could turn to her and finally called her boss back in the UK.
& # 39; He said: & # 39; It's a lot of money & # 39 ;, and he didn't want to pay it, & # 39; she said.
Donna said she and her friend were still together after the trial and were now engaged to get married
& # 39; I cried on the phone and begged my boss to pay, & # 39; she added, & # 39; I was very scared to stay in jail for two days. & # 39;
Eventually the man agreed to pay the bail and Donna was free to go.
However, she was no longer invited to the wedding after the fight and her arrest.
Donna explained that she thought her relationship would end there, but that she and her boyfriend had all solved it when she returned to the hotel.
She had to go to court again to hear her sentence and feared that she could get up to five years in prison.
But because the judge was in a good mood – & # 39; his team had defeated England & # 39 ;, Donna said – he found her guilty of a third-degree crime.
Instead of imprisonment, Donna had to pay $ 425 – a fine still open three years after the incident.
However, her boyfriend stayed with her throughout the ordeal and the couple is now getting married.
Young, Dumb and Banged Up in the Sun will be broadcast on 5Star tonight at 9 p.m.
