A woman has been found dead and a man is in custody after police were called to an apartment for a welfare check.
His body was discovered at an address on Brunswick Street in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley about 1.30pm on Tuesday.
“The police forced their way into a unit and found a dead woman,” Inspector Karl Hahne told reporters.
‘As a result of further investigations, a man is now at Valley Police Station assisting detectives with their inquiries.
“A crime scene has been declared, so forensics, detectives and our uniformed officers are on scene at this time.”
The woman’s body was discovered at an address on Brunswick St, in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, on Tuesday around 1.30pm.
Detectives will be at the unit for several hours processing the scene and trying to establish exactly what happened.
Inspector Karl Hahne said there are no further threats to the community at this time.
“We believe this threat has been contained, so our investigations are focused on finding out what happened today and the days leading up to today,” he said.
Police are still trying to confirm the formal identification of the woman and whether there is any relationship between her and the detained man.
