Police are investigating the ‘suspicious’ death of a woman in a quiet Cornish town amid reports of a shooting.

The body of the 62-year-old victim was found shortly after 8:30 this morning in a house in Helston, on the county’s south coast.

Devon and Cornwall police said the woman’s death was treated as ‘suspicious’ but gave no further details.

Several neighbors from the property where the body was discovered have claimed there was an incident involving a shooting.

Witnesses also reported police units and dogs searching the National Trust’s Penrose Forest between Helston and Porthleven.

Officers have not confirmed whether any arrests have been made.

Devon and Cornwall police said: ‘Police were called to an address on Meneage Road, Helston this morning at around 8:30 am with a report of concern about a woman.

Police were present with ambulance workers and a 62-year-old woman was declared dead on arrival.

Her relatives have been informed.

Her death is being treated as suspicious and police investigations into the cause of her death are ongoing.

“Officers would love to hear from anyone who saw something out of the ordinary between the evening of Monday, May 24 and this morning, Tuesday, May 25, in the Greenbank, Bullock Lane and Meneage Street areas of Helston.”
