A woman fleeing a sexual assault in a popular south Melbourne park was chased by her alleged attacker and forced to seek help from passersby, police said.
A 42-year-old man, who was out on bail at the time, was arrested around 11:15 p.m. Friday following the Albert Park Lake incident.

It is alleged that the man, unknown to the woman, approached her as she sat on the lake shore.
Officers allege that the Prahran man then sexually and physically assaulted the woman.
“The woman was able to run away from the man, who would pursue her, before seeking help from passersby,” police said in a statement.
“Members of the St Kilda Division responded quickly and arrested the Prahran man nearby.”
The man has been charged with assault, assault by coercive sexual assault, assault with intent to commit assault, assault under common law, and committing a criminal offense while out on bail.
He was remanded in custody overnight and will appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
