Woman dies as rental truck crashes into pole in Noble Park North, Melbourne

A woman has died after the Budget rental truck she was traveling in left the road and crashed into a pole in Melbourne's southeast.

A woman has died after a rental truck crashed into a pole in Melbourne’s southeast.

The Budget rental truck was traveling north on Jacksons Road in Noble Park North when it left the road and crashed into a pole just before 3 a.m. Monday.

Emergency services responded to the scene of the accident and found a female passenger dead at the scene.

The 32-year-old driver fled the accident, but was located a short time later by the police dog squad in Noble Park, near the intersection of Elonera Road and Princes Highway.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are on scene and working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.

The driver is in custody and is assisting police with their investigations. No charges have been filed.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area or allow additional travel time for detours as Jackson Road remains closed in both directions.
