A woman who was shot in the back is fighting for her life while the alleged gunman remains at large.
Linley Anyos, 33, was sitting in a blue Volkswagen Jetta outside a house on Trees Road in Tallebudgera, on the Gold Coast, when she was shot about 12noon on Wednesday.
Police believe the shot was fired from the back seat of the car.
Detectives have not ruled out the possibility that the shooting was an accident and are searching for a man, believed to be known to Ms Anyos, who was at the property but left before emergency services arrived. .
The relationship between the alleged gunman and Mrs. Anyos is unclear.
Anyos was rushed from the scene to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition, where she remained on Thursday.
It is understood that he is on life support in the ICU with his family at his bedside, the Gold Coast Newsletter reported.
Dozens of police and forensic officers were seen examining the crime scene and interviewing residents during a major investigation on Wednesday.

Images from the scene showed at least five police vehicles parked outside the house.
No arrests or charges have been filed and police have not yet located the firearm used.
It is understood Mrs. Anyos. I was among a group of people helping someone move out of the house at the time.
“I understand the car has been parked in the same location for a couple of hours,” Detective Inspector Mark Mooney told reporters on Wednesday.
“We have contacted the homicide squad because the victim’s injuries are critical and we do not know at this time if he will survive or not.”
Before the shooting, dozens of people had come to the house to pick up free furniture advertised on Facebook Marketplace.
At least 10 people assisted police in their investigations on Wednesday.
“Everyone has been very compliant at this point,” Detective Inspector Mooney said.
‘There are between eight and ten people who have returned to one of our stations to give statements.
“We are also pursuing people who were here before that, people who may have seen or heard something or spoken to certain people while they were here, or who had video or CCTV cameras.”
It is understood another person was inside the Volkswagen Jetta at the time of the shooting.
Officers are searching for a man, believed to be known to Ms Anyos (pictured), who was at the property but left before emergency services arrived.

“Our forensic examination of the vehicle has not yet been carried out,” Inspector Mooney said.
‘It appears the victim was sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle and was shot in the seat.
As I understand it, the car has been parked in the same place for a couple of hours.
“She arrived on the scene with a couple of our witnesses who were helping (people) get out.”
Police He urged all witnesses who left the scene before officers arrived to come forward.
“We would like to speak to anyone who was present to give us any information we don’t already have,” Inspector Mooney said.
“It’s going to be a complex investigation.”
He stressed there was no ongoing threat to the public.
‘I don’t think there is a need to alarm the community with this. At this time we do not know the exact occurrence of what happened. “We obviously recommend that our community remains alert,” Inspector Mooney said.
Neighbors were shocked to return home and find the street cordoned off by the police.
“The police who turned up basically surrounded… the residents when we arrived so we didn’t see much,” one resident told Nine News.

“A police van drove past us screaming. Scared the hell out of us all,” one local posted online.
Another added: “It doesn’t sound good at all.”
