David Henrie gushed about his on-screen reunion with Selena Gomez during the Wizards of Waverly Place revival production.

The 34-year-old actor praised his co-star, 31, and claimed that Disney’s upcoming show, titled Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, promises to be as special for fans to watch as it was for them.

‘It was incredible. We didn’t want it to end. “It was great,” said the actor. US weekly on Saturday.

David and Selena played brothers Justin and Alex Russo in the Disney comedy, which concluded its four-year run in 2012.

“We have a couple of scenes that I think will surprise the original fan of the original show, they’re really moving and they came out really well,” he added. “So, I’m excited for you to see it.”

Fans can also anticipate the return of David DeLuise, who will reprise his role as Jerry Russo, Alex and Justin’s father on the show.

“It was a pleasure,” David said of filming with Jerry again.

“And we hope they all come back for the life of the show, and if it’s up to me, as often as possible because they are a wonderful addition.”

In May, Selena revealed the official title of the new Wizards of Waverly Place spin-off series.

At the ABC and Disney Upfronts event in New York City, the actress said she was “very excited” to announce the title of the revival show: Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

“Sometimes something magical happens when you come home,” he said.

After taking the stage and revealing the title, Disney shared the first images of the new show, which was previously announced earlier this year in January, on Instagram.

In the photos, Selena and David are seen reprising their roles as brother duo Alex and Justin Russo, respectively.

In January, Disney Branded Television issued a pilot order for the new series.

It was revealed that the Love On singer will only appear on the show as a guest star, but will act as executive producer.

In Disney’s publication, Gómez and Henrie were also seen posing in a group photo with the new protagonists and the rest of the cast.

The new series stars Janice LeAnn Brown as Billie Russo, Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo, Alkaio Thiele as Roman Russo and Max Matenko as Milo Russo.

According to a Disney synopsis, the new series will follow “an adult Justin Russo, who has chosen to live a normal mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman and Milo.”

Gomez will reprise her role as Alex when she takes Billie to her brother’s house to seek his help.

The show then follows Justin as he “realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his day-to-day responsibilities and safeguarding the future of the Wizarding World.”

Gomez and Henrie also starred in the 2009 spin-off film Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie.

In 2012, Gómez reprized his role in a television special titled The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, which did not include Henrie due to scheduling conflicts with another film.

A release date for Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has yet to be announced, but it is expected to premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ later this year.
