The discovery was made by the Egyptian archaeological mission, which has been excavating for antiquities in the area since 2018.

Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities and head of the mission, said in a press conference held in the region that “the two discovered workshops date back to the end of the 30th Dynasty and the beginning of the Ptolemaic period,” adding that the mission was also able to uncover two tombs from the eras of the Old and New Kingdoms, in addition to a number of finds. Archaeological”.

Waziri added, “The human embalming workshop, which was revealed, is a rectangular building made of mud brick, divided from the inside into a number of rooms containing two beds for human embalming. The dimensions of the bed range from about two meters in length, one meter in width, and 50 cm in height.”

According to Waziri, a large number of pottery utensils were discovered inside the workshop, including utensils in the form of sense pots spread in all rooms, which may have been used in the mummification process.

Since the start of its work at the site of the Bubastian necropolis in Saqqara, the Egyptian mission has been able to make several discoveries, most notably a unique tomb of a priest from the Fifth Pharaonic Dynasty called “Wahati”, in addition to 7 rock tombs, including three tombs from the modern Pharaonic state, four from the old state, and a cemetery facade from old state.
