Dozens of suspects have been arrested in several European countries, during a large-scale security operation against the Italian ‘Ndrangheta mafia.
More than 100 places were searched in raids, and more than 30 people were arrested, in an operation dubbed “Eurekia” that involved police from Germany, Italy, Belgium, France, Portugal and Spain.
About 1,000 police officers launched the raids in the German states of Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, regional prosecutors said in a joint statement.
The Calabrian ‘Ndrangheta, one of Italy’s most notorious mafia gangs, has been accused of running a drug ring, arms trafficking, money laundering, tax evasion and fraud.
