A study conducted by researchers at the American University of Beirut in 2018 revealed that traffic in Lebanon contributes significantly to the high levels of air pollution in the country.

The second Middle East electric car exhibition was launched in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, as it provides an opportunity for car enthusiasts to explore the latest versions of this type of cars from leading international companies.

Car manufacturers from around the world are presenting their latest products at the fair, which started on Wednesday and is scheduled to end on May 14.

“The more we can reduce pollution in the country, the better,” said Ralph Rahme, Mazda representative in Lebanon.

“In my personal opinion, it is still too early to fully transition to electric vehicles, and this is why we are promoting hybrid cars,” Rahma added.

BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi were among the manufacturers that displayed their latest electric cars at the show in Beirut.

Lebanon, which relies heavily on fossil fuels, has begun taking steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with the government canceling all customs duties on electric cars with the aim of encouraging imports.
