Winter: The Best Places to Visit in the UK

The UK is incredibly beautiful all year round, but there is something magical about the winter with many fantastic places to visit that are extra special during this time of the year. Here are a few of the best places to visit in the UK during winter.

Hertfordshire is one of the beautiful home counties found in Southern England just north of London. This historic county has many fantastic things to do during the winter period, including winter walks in the stunning English countryside which will take your breath away. There are also lots of charming towns to explore here, including Stevenage where you have the impressive Knebworth House and Fairlands Valley Park. Stevenage is also easy to reach with a train travelling from Hitchin to Stevenage.

The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds in south-west England is a wonderful area to visit during winter as it has been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and contains a handful of charming small towns which are cosy and welcoming places during winter filled with markets, pubs and restaurants.

In Scotland, Edinburgh is a special city at any time of the year but particularly during winter when the town comes alive with festive cheer. You can also enjoy rewarding walks in the surrounding natural scenery, including a walk to the summit of Arthur’s Seat for incredible views of the city and mountains in the distance.

It is, of course, always worth a trip to the capital during the winter as there is so much to see and do here for every type of visitor. Around the Christmas period, there are many lively markets and other experiences, such as Christmas at Kew, Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park and the Southbank Christmas Market.

People flock to Brighton on the south coast during the warmer months of the year and it is easy to see why, but it is special during the winter too (and much quieter). While it can be windy and cold down by the sea, the Lanes and town centre are lovely to explore at this time of the year with lots of cool and inviting shops, cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants.

These are just a few of the best places to visit during winter but there are many more to consider. There is something unique and magical about England in the winter with the breathtaking countryside allowing for some rewarding walks and the towns and villages becoming cosy places with lots to see and do.
