British wildcard Katie Swan has crashed in the first round at Wimbledon after losing in three sets to Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk.

Kostyuk took the second set before taking an early break in the third set, turning the game in her favor.

Swan, who made her fifth appearance at Wimbledon as a wildcard, recovered from a rocky start to claim the opener in a hard-fought battle against world number 76 Kostyuk.

Swan, ranked 184 in the world and Britain’s number six, looked like she could reach the second round as she took a break in the second set to make it 4-4.

It was then where she started to noticeably shudder and the trainer yelled out after she dropped the serve in the next game.

Swan fought on resiliently despite her apparent struggle, suffering a 4-6 6-4 6-4 defeat.
