Willie Revillame was reportedly chosen by executives at production company TAPE Inc. to be one of the hosts of “Eat Bulaga,” but he turned down the offer out of respect for the show’s original hosts, Tito and Vic Sotto, and Joey. de León (TVJ), according to television personality Cristy Fermin.
Speaking on her “Cristy Ferminute” radio show on Monday, July 3, Fermin said the “Wowowin” host met with the production company’s president and CEO, Jon Jalosjos, and Bullet Jalosjos finance officer, with hoping to bring Revillame on board the renewed midday program.
“Noong nakaraang Friday, Hunyo 30 ay nagkita-kita po sina Willie Revillame and ang magkapatid na Jalosjos, ang kanilang CEO na si Jon-jon and si Mayor Bullet. Ang gusto po nila lumabas si Willie sa kanilang program ‘yung hindi lehitimong ‘Eat Bulaga’ [at] tatapatan ang sultada ng Tito, Vic and Joey and Dabarkads dito po sa TV5. Taste nila noong Saturday,” she said.
(Last Friday June 30th, Willie Revillame met with the Jalosjos brothers, CEO Jon-jon Jalosjos and Dapitan Bullet Jalosjos Mayor of Dapitan City. They wanted Willie to appear on “Eat Bulaga” to take on Tito, Vic, Joey, and the pilot episode of the Dabarkads on TV5 that they wanted to happen last Saturday).
However, Fermín said he was told that Revillame did not accept the offer from TAPE executives because he “respects” the veteran trio of comedians. Despite this, the television host was open to discussing possibilities regarding his previous program “Wowowin,” said Fermín.
“Isa lang ang sinabi ni Willie, ‘Matindi ang respect ko sa Tito, Vic and Joey. Hindi ko magagawa ‘yun!’ Anganda, diba? she said.
“’Pero kung ang dahilan kung bakit niyo ako kaharap ngayon ay ang ‘Wowowin’, sige pag-usapan natin’. ‘Yun ang sinabi niya. But ‘yung tatapatan ang Tito, Vic and Joey and Dabarkads doon sa an sultada noong Saturday, hindi niya ‘yun magagawa. Sinabi niya, ‘Hindi ko talaga pwedeng gawin matindi ang respect ko sa Tito, Vic and Joey,’” he continued.
(Willie only said one thing: “I have a lot of respect for Tito, Vic and Joey. I’ll never do that.” It’s good, right? Facing Tito, Vic, Joey and the Dabarkads last Saturday, he never will. He said: ” I will never do it out of respect for Tito, Vic and Joey.”
The television personality, however, did not elaborate on how and where the meeting between Revillame and the TAPE executives took place, beyond the date.
The Revillame camps and TAPE Inc. have yet to issue a statement on the reports, as of this writing.
The first day of July marked a historic moment in midday television when three shows went up against each other. TVJ’s new midday show “EAT” premiered its first episode on TV5 and later claimed it had the highest average program rating among local midday shows including “It’s Showtime” and “Eat Bulaga” days later.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN’s “It’s Showtime” also aired its pilot episode on GMA Network’s GTV, following the expiration of its contract with TV5.
On the other hand, the renewed “Eat Bulaga” completed its first month on the air, where the main presenters Isko Moreno and Paolo Contis congratulated TVJ on its new program. edv
