Fox ordered Stars on Marsa space-themed celebrity competition series led by the legendary William Shatner.
In the unscripted show, from Fremantle-owned Eureka Productions, celebrities will leave their pampered earthbound lives behind for life in a space station that simulates conditions on Mars. According to the producers, the stars will live, eat and sleep under these otherworldly conditions, but will also have to forge alliances, strategize and indulge in deceit to be the last celebronaut standing.
Star Trek icon Shatner, who made a lifelike journey to space in October 2021 with Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, is not listed as host of Stars on Mars, but is on board to run Mission Control. Shatner will support the celebrities and no doubt use words of wisdom as they try to complete missions and avoid the weekly elimination votes.
“Good news for our Mission Control celebronauts,” Shatner said in a statement. “Thanks to the lower gravity on Mars, you weigh 62% less. Bad news: the air is unbreathable, so if you’re from LA it will remind you of home.”
Stars on Mars debuts on Fox June 5 at 8pm ET/9pm PT
The show is executive produced by Eureka’s Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Wes Dening and Eden Gaha. Charles Wachter serves as executive producer and showrunner.
