Harry Maguire is STILL England’s most expensive player, with Jack Grealish thinking twice about a £100m transfer from Manchester City, the Spurs clinging to Harry Kane and Chelsea objecting to Declan Rice’s fee…so , will one of the Euro heroes catch up with him this summer?
- Harry Maguire’s £80m Man United move remains a record amount for an Englishman
- Harry Kane, Jack Grealish and Declan Rice have been linked with £100million moves
- But there is uncertainty about the possible transfers of all three English stars
- England’s Euro 2020 stars have more than five weeks to secure big money moves geld
In a summer when Harry Kane is looking to move to greener pastures and Manchester United are finally putting their hands in their pockets to land Jadon Sancho, you would think Harry Maguire’s record £80million would now have been blown out of the water.
Especially if there is also interest in Jack Grealish and Declan Rice, who find out to help England reach their first major final in 55 years.
After those two comes the insanely wealthy Manchester City and Chelsea, for whom money has never been an object.
Manchester United’s Harry Maguire remains the most expensive English transfer of all time
United are about to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £73million £
City spent a total of £160 million last summer, while Chelsea spent more than £200 million as the coronavirus ravaged economies around the world.
City is owned by Sheik Mansour, who has an estimated net worth of $17 billion and a family fortune of at least $1 trillion. Yet Pep Guardiola still wants you to believe that they cannot afford a striker this summer.
Chelsea is owned by Roman Abramovich, who has Forbes as the 8th richest sports owner in the world. Since taking over the club in 2003, Chelsea have spent more than £2bn on transfers. However, they draw a line by spending £100 million on 22-year-old Rice.
With Grealish, City may still be willing to pay Aston Villa’s asking price, but it is the player who is in doubt.
If that deal doesn’t come through, Guardiola would at least free up money to go full throttle to get Kane.
City are desperate to sign a striker this summer after Sergio Aguero left for free to join Barcelona and Kane is one of their many targets.
The player wants to leave Tottenham to pursue his ambitions to win trophies, but Daniel Levy has other ideas and is digging his heels in the sand.
Harry Kane could overtake Maguire if he leaves Tottenham for £100m this summer
England star Jack Grealish is also linked with a £100m move this summer
£100 million is the amount that has been talked about for Kane, but no concrete offers have been made for him yet.
Will City, who convincingly won the league last season without an established number 9, pay such a fee for Kane? Nobody holds their breath.
Especially if Erling Haaland, which has a longer shelf life and greater appeal than Kane, is on the market.
United are another option for Kane, but after bringing in Sancho for £73m and pushing to get deals for Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier across the line, the striker’s £100m price tag could stretch their budget too far .
So, will Kane, Grealish and Rice break Maguire’s record this summer and get their cash grab?
For Kane, you fear that Levy’s interference could be too big an obstacle to overcome.
It may take something drastic for Kane to force a move. And for a model professional like him that is not self-evident.
However, recent reports have claimed that his England team-mates believe he is so determined to leave that he could refuse to train with Tottenham if Levy stood a step in his way.
West Ham told Chelsea they want £100million for Declan Rice but the Blues aren’t willing to pay it
Grealish has doubts about leaving Aston Villa and may sign another deal
There is certainly a lot more chance of Grealish making a move this summer, should he choose to do so.
Interest is there and some clubs are thought to pay £100million to sign him, but the ball is in his court.
Rice’s situation is similar to Kane’s as he is eager to spread his wings but his club is hesitant to let him go.
Chelsea’s initial doubts about Rice’s suitability for them after Frank Lampard identified him as a target appear to have evaporated, but they are not inclined to live up to West Ham’s current valuation.
Kane, Rice and Grealish remain the three most likely of England’s Euro 2020 heroes to land a big money transfer this summer, although Raheem Sterling is also surprisingly put in the window by City.
The club are willing to listen to offers for him, but it is ultimately considered unlikely that he will leave this summer.
For now, Maguire is still the most expensive Englishman of all time. But with more than five weeks left in the transfer window, you can’t count on that change.
