A lioness took a wildebeest in a deadly game of buckaroo in a national park in Botswana.

The female surprised the other animal in a well, jumped on his back and tried to lower her teeth into the flesh of the beast.

At one point she called for help from a fellow lioness as they tried to capture the wildebeest between them.

After a two-minute struggle, the wildebeest was taken and the lioness fed the animal's carcass to its three hungry male cubs.

The photos were taken by Sue Morris, a photographer from Hampshire in the United Kingdom, during a safari trip in the Nxai Pan National Park in the South African nation.

& # 39; It was certainly a difficult thing to look at, but when I had seen the lion family in recent days, it was clear that the cubs needed a meal & she said.

& # 39; Seeing something like this up close and in daylight is very unusual and I had the privilege of documenting one of nature's greatest battles and experiencing the reality of what it takes to survive in the wild. & # 39;
