Wife surprises after completely revamping her pantry in two weeks as a ‘surprise’ for husband who’s been away on business
- A mother completely renovated her pantry in two weeks to surprise her husband
- The DIY expert repainted the walls, replaced the shelves and installed cabinets
One mom shared a brilliant pantry makeover that led her to paint and completely revamp the room.
Melanie, from Sydney, was tired of looking at her dilapidated sink with old paint on the walls and not enough storage space for all her essentials.
So when her husband left on a two-week business trip, the mother decided it was about time she pulled up her socks and got to work in the pantry.
Although the mom had a hard time drilling through her concrete walls, she managed to install new shelves, cabinets, and paint the accent wall a beautiful turquoise.
She’s spent $2,200 on materials so far, including cabinets, paint, and whitewash stain, and estimates she’ll spend $500 more on repairs.

‘My husband works in the mines, he has been gone for two weeks and he is coming home tomorrow,’ said the mother. I’ve been BUSY renovating our utility room.
Melanie used Dulux paint, ordered the cabinets from Flatpax, and bought the countertops and limewash stain from Bunnings.
I previously owned all the power tools I would need to complete the remodel.
The mother revealed that while there was still work to be done, she was sure her husband would be “shocked” anyway.
Melanie was also grateful that her 11-year-old daughter and two of her friends helped her fit the new fixings through the window, as they were too big to fit through the driveway.
She added a row of white cabinets with light wood countertops along the walls to give the family extra space to store their belongings.

She shared photos of her progress on a popular DIY Mums. cluster.
‘I need to finish the vertical seam panel backsplash, paint more walls, replace the melamine shelving and add wall shelving above the cabinets and caulk.’
“I just ran out of time to finish before he came home, but I can’t wait to get it fixed up and start using it.”
In fact, her husband was pleasantly surprised to come home to Melanie’s hard work.
“My husband’s reaction was great, there was profanity but in a nutshell: ‘Wow, you did it.'”
