Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have revealed the truth about their film contracts, following rumors of a pay gap between them.
The couple is enjoying the box office success of Wicked: Part 1, the first installment of the two-film adaptation of the hit 2003 musical.
In the run-up to the film’s release, a cloud of rumors emerged that Ariana, a world-famous pop star, was paid much more than Cynthia.
As speculation reached a fever pitch, Universal Pictures issued a statement in November insisting that both actresses earned the same salary.
Now Cynthia and Ariana have spoken candidly about the “rare” step they took to ensure they received fair compensation.
‘We review our contracts together and call each other. “Did you see that? What do you think of that? Let’s fix it!” Ariana, 31, said. Variety.

‘We both went through that: “What number are we doing? How do you feel about it?” We were really fucking honest. And that’s really weird. People don’t do that,” said Cynthia, who plays the lead role of Elphaba in the film.
“We are very different, but when we do something like this together, his needs become my needs,” Ariana said. “And their needs become mine,” Cynthia said.
