Hundreds of shoppers were seen lining up at Kmart stores at midnight hoping to score a new and unexpected item.

The sold-out edition of the $79 Pokémon Trading Card Game: Scarlet and Violet Prismatic Evolutions hit shelves across Australia this week, and fans are scrambling to get their hands on the coveted collectible box set.

Sydney’s Angeline Devera was among those who successfully landed the Elite Trainer set on Thursday night.

Arriving at the 24-hour Kmart store in Campbelltown at 11.30pm, she was greeted by dozens of shoppers, all competing for the same product.

“I thought I had the cool idea to go at 12am to get the new Pokémon release… I definitely wasn’t the only one with the same thought,” Angeline said in a video.

He shared a video showing a long line of buyers at 11:30 p.m. waiting to buy the new Pokémon. Box, which was limited to one per customer.

‘D“It’s definitely worth watching,” Angeline said, adding that she thought it was healthy to see Pokémon fans in real life.

However, not everyone has been lucky, with many reporting the cards selling out within 20 minutes at their local store.

‘My son just wanted a game he saved up for. We left six stores empty-handed. Must be on sale on the day with purchase limits. Now it’s on Facebook Marketplace for between $90 and $160 a set,” one parent said.

“My local Kmart sold out of stock in 15 minutes,” another shared.

The popular playing cards are available for purchase at major retailers including Big W, JB Hi-Fi and EB Games, with some stores offering pre-orders.

‘Just left the fifth Big W store so far today and they’re all sold out. “I’m crying,” one shared.

“I was able to get mine today, I paid double but anything for my son,” said another.

‘I called EB Games near me and they said it was completely sold out and they would have some stock in the store but it would be gone at 9:01am (opening at 9:00am) which is crazy. “I have no idea why this set is so hyped everywhere,” one revealed.

‘Big W has just launched Prismatic products on their website. Sold out in a minute everywhere,” added another.
