Taylor Swift fans were left furious after hearing the pop star’s hit song My Tears Ricochet in the trailer for Colleen Hoover’s film It Ends With Us, starring the singer’s best friend Blake Lively.
Last week the trailer for Blake’s highly anticipated film, which is an adaptation of Colleen’s book, was released.
The author has previously been criticized for romanticizing domestic violence with her book, as well as releasing a nail art and painting book inspired by her novel.
Blake, 36, plays Lily Bloom, a woman who begins a passionate, and then abusive, relationship with Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni, 40), before the return of her ex, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar, 32).
The film, which will be released on August 9, is also directed by Baldoni.

Blake and Taylor are famous for being best friends, but Swifties weren’t impressed by the tune featured in the movie’s trailer.
Following the trailer’s release, Taylor fans were quick to voice their opinions about the artist’s use of the song from her eighth studio album, Folklore.
Fans responded to a post made by Taylor Nation, the singer’s official PR account, on X, formerly known as Twitter, in which they promoted the trailer.
One person said: “Delete please, everyone is asking you to delete it.”
Another user added: ‘Are my tears bouncing off the damn Colleen Hoover movie trailer? Of course I’m not taking my baby out of that damn trailer.
“A Colleen Hoover adaptation of a Taylor Swift song, this belongs in the deepest pits of hell, along with everyone who chokes on this,” someone else wrote.
“Sorry, but a Taylor song won’t make me watch a Colleen Hoover movie,” one user wrote, prompting many other people on the web to claim the same thing.
Someone else wrote: ‘Sorry girl, I love myself too much for this.’
‘Yes, in the same boat! But grab your bag Blake and Taylor haha,’ one user added.
The film, which will be released on August 9, is based on the best-selling book by Colleen Hoover (due in 2023).
Following the release of the trailer, Taylor fans were quick to express their opinions on the use of the artist’s song.
One comment read: “I couldn’t even finish the trailer.”
Previously, many took a dim view of the trailer itself, accusing it of giving away the film’s entire plot before its release.
The trailer begins with Lily meeting Ryle at her new flower shop, before the duo hit it off and enter into a romantic relationship.
The duo goes on a date and things soon get heated.
“I want to see you again,” Ryle tells Lily.
“Now you see me,” he jokes.
“You know what I mean,” he replies.
But then a darker side of Ryle emerges.
During a tense conversation, Ryle is shown standing and smashing an object on the ground.
“I’m so sorry,” he says tenderly afterwards.
But then Atlas returns. Lily is shown running towards him, flashbacks of their relationship as the children appear on screen.

“Yeah, we were just kids then,” Lily replies.
Noticing the man she is holding hands with, Atlas asks, ‘Is that your boy?’
‘Yeah. That’s Ryle,” she replies.
Ryle seems suspicious of Lily when at one point he asks her, ‘Do you love him?’
“I love you,” he assures her.
“That wasn’t my question,” Ryle replies.
Lily poses a powerful question to Ryle: ‘If you one day had a daughter, what would you tell her?
—She came to see you and told you that the person she loved was hurting her? What would you say to her?’
Above the voice, he reflects: “No matter how difficult this choice is.” We break the pattern. Or the boss breaks us.’
Soon, Lily runs into her old love, Atlas, whom she met during her childhood.
The film is based on the novel of the same name, It Ends with Us, which saw a surge in popularity in late 2021.
It Ends With Us will be released on August 9.
Colleen previously revealed that It Ends With Us was “the most difficult book I’ve ever written” as it was based on the relationship between her parents.
In 2019, the book sold over a million copies worldwide and has since been translated into over 20 different languages.
The book received another boost in popularity in late 2021 thanks to TikTok’s #BookTok community.
It Ends With Us was the best-selling book in print of 2022 and remained on the New York Times bestseller list for more than 90 weeks.
