Why shoppers are all talking about this upcoming ‘mega bargain’ from Aldi Australia’s Special Buys: ‘Obsessed’

The Aldi smart TV is always a hit with shoppers for its low $299 price and sleek design, but reviews are mixed

Aldi Australia is set to release a $299 40-inch TV as part of its popular ‘Special Buys’.

The product comes with WebOS Hub pre-installed to stream Netflix, Stan, Disney+ and more. The Bauhn smart TVs are always a hit with bargain hunters for their affordability and sleek design compared to high-end brands.

However, experts have warned that the technology is ‘mediocre’. Australian consumer company CHOICE has reviewed Aldi televisions over the years and says there is ‘much room for improvement’.

Denis Gallagher, CHOICE technology expert, said in January: ‘So far we haven’t really seen a Bauhn TV that has performed well.

“Of course, that can change with new models – we’ve seen that with other brands – but despite the undeniably low price, customers should be cautious when considering these bargain models based on what we’ve seen.”

Other televisions Aldi has previously sold include the $699 65-inch, $599 58-inch and the 55-inch 4K ultra HD Bauhn TV for $479.

Despite the rough expert rating, customers shared their own mixed reviews on Facebook.

“It’s basically a Samsung TV at a third of the price. Super easy to use and the remote is so simple there’s not a lot of clicking to find apps,’ the mom wrote, sharing a photo.

But another was disappointed when the TV ‘accidentally’ broke.

‘I had an Aldi TV for many years,’ said one mum, another added: ‘Awful. Wouldn’t get it as a main TV, but OK for a spare room or kids room (not for games though).’

‘We’ve had ours for a few years now (65-inch) and are very happy with it and the price. Just added a cheap soundbar,’ wrote one more.

“It’s amazing we’ve had two – the first one lasted ten years,” added one more.

At such a low price, it’s tempting to pick up the deal, and those interested should act quickly once they launch, as stock is limited.
