Why playful Aussies send each other giant novelty balloons in lockdown – and how you can too
- People send each other helium balloons in the mail during lockdown
- Cake Mail founder Jonny Massaad launched his Balloon Mail company this year
- The company offers same day delivery of balloon packages in Sydney
The dessert king behind multimillion-dollar company Cake Mail is now helping people get through lockdown with brightly colored helium balloons.
Jonny Massaad’s new company, Balloon Mail, is based on the same concept as his ever-popular dessert start-up.
When delivering exciting packages to friends and family of people all over Sydney, this time instead of finding surprise cake on the doorstep, will be a box of balloons.

The messages in the balloons range from witty to sweet and have been very popular
‘Say it with a balloon’ is the company’s slogan.
And they are proud to offer sweet, funny, rude and very colorful options.
“I’m quite obsessed with you,” it reads in a balloon – the message was popular and sold out quickly.
“Get well soon, attention-seeking whore,” reads another’s front cover.
A bright yellow balloon has a picture of a banana with the words ‘I find you attractive’, while a pink balloon says ‘I love you more than bacon’.
The company has been so successful during the lockdown that they can no longer offer same-day deliveries in Sydney.

This is one of the core components of the Cake Mail and Balloon Mail business models, but should be available again soon.
Jonny is very active on Instagram and it seems his fans are excited about the latest business offering.
“Thank you so much for making my mom’s day,” one woman wrote to the company, showing a video of her mom opening her present.
Some packages come with alcohol and other care packages
The gifts can also come with extras, including various delicious snacks.
The Balloon Mail business already has 16k followers on Instagram.
Founder Jonny previously revealed how he was an insecure, shy and overweight teenager who was constantly bullied during his time in high school.
But ever since he started his first cake business from his mother’s kitchen, he has grown stronger and stronger and is now the complete opposite.
Confident, loved and thriving, his Cake Mail brand has over 130,000 followers on Instagram.
