Why Netflix streaming service will “disappear” from some Australian homes in a few days

Popular streaming service Netflix will not be available on certain Sony TVs starting next week

Australians are being urged to check their TVs as popular streaming service Netflix is set to disappear from some devices next week.

The affected TVs are 37 Sony Bravia models sold in the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, in 2014, and as of July 24 are no longer compatible with Netflix.

Similarly, Netflix will no longer work on second- and third-generation Apple TV devices starting July 31.

The app can still be run on affected Bravia TVs using a third-party streaming device, such as Google Chromecast.

In February, Netflix announced that the app would no longer support a number of Bravia models from 2011 to 2013.

Sony said the reason was due to technical limitations in the affected models.

Customers can contact Netflix for more information.
