Why LEMON is the secret to cleaning your rusty knives – and it takes seconds to fix your cutlery

A mom has revealed the secret to cleaning rusty blades every time, and all you need is a lemon.

Creative home stylist and mom of four, Liz Amaya, from Brisbane, Australia, shared a video of her clever knife cleaning hack Instagram.

The mother simply took a serrated knife with a rust stain on the blade and rubbed it with a halved lemon.

“Lemons aren’t just for making lemonade,” the housewife joked in the video caption.

She compared lemons to vinegar and said they are both great for cleaning.

“The acid in lemons is antibacterial and antiseptic, and it acts like a natural bleaching agent,” she explained.

She also said the oils in the lemon’s rind help cleanse and shine.

And her fans were blown away by the simple hack.

Others describe Liz as their ‘cleaning hack guru’ and thanked her for all her helpful tips.

At the end of the video, the mother wiped the knife with a dry cloth – to show how well her lemon trick had worked on the stubborn rust spot.

Lemon juice also works to remove rust from fabrics such as clothing or even carpet.

They can also be used to remove stains from dishes and countertops and remove yellow underarm stains from clothing.

It can also be used as a deterrent to insects such as flies and mosquitoes.

This isn’t the first time one of Liz’s tricks caught the imagination of her audience and went viral – she recently revealed how to fit your pots and pans in the dishwasher.

The mother-of-four just lifts the top drawer until it clicks into place, expanding the space underneath it a few inches so pans can fit inside.

The video starts with Liz showing how the dishwasher’s sprinkler cannot turn when large pans are in use.

After lifting the tray, the mother repeats the movement, adding the pan and running the water sprayer.

This time it spins freely.

And the legion of the woman’s fans were quite impressed with the hack – thousands of them liked and responded to the post.

“I can’t believe it took 36 years to figure this out,” said one woman.

Another woman revealed that her husband wanted to throw out her favorite plates because they were too big for the family’s dishwasher.

“After we watched your video, we tried and now they fit,” she said, relieved to keep her new crockery.

Some of her followers went so far as to say it was the busy mom’s ‘best hack yet’.

Others keep waiting for more of the good advice from the mother.
