Football star turned Hollywood actor Matt Nable suffered a shocking family tragedy on the day of the NRL Vegas double-header, with his brother Aaron passing away.
Aaron, 46, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in July 2022, heartbreaking news for the man whose voice is synonymous with rugby league in Australia.
Aaron leaves three children, aged 10, two and one, and was a former national amateur boxing champion, training with legendary trainer Johnny Lewis. He also trained regularly with Australian boxing great Kostya Tszyu.
His death was confirmed by football star-turned-TV star Matthew Johns during his show in Las Vegas on Sunday, with Matt Nable taking part in Fox Sports’ coverage of the doubleheader thanks to promotional videos he filmed in the US city. .

“I just want to send my deepest condolences to Matty Nable at Fox Sports and the entire Nable family on the passing of Matty’s brother Aaron, who was just a fantastic guy and really charismatic,” Johns said.
‘He passed away today. We send our best regards to Matty (Nable) and the family.”
Nable shares a very close bond with his three brothers and sister, who traveled a lot growing up due to his father being in the military.
“It’s hard not to be emotional,” Nable said of her brother’s diagnosis in a tearful interview with The Sydney Morning Herald in 2023.

The former Manly and Souths player was recently in Las Vegas to film a promotional video for the NRL double-header.
‘It made us very close, because we just had each other.
‘There were times when it was just us, five kids in a room.
‘Aaron slept with me until he was nine or ten. He and I were afraid of everything; I’m sure we were always dying of something. And he was very afraid that he would happen something to our mother.
Shortly after Aaron was diagnosed, the four brothers and their friends booked a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Las Vegas.
They watched a world title boxing fight and an NFL game and partied during their vacation, what Nable called a “trip of a lifetime.”
The 51-year-old, who played first grade football for Manly and South Sydney, returned to Las Vegas to film a promotional video for the NRL season-opening doubleheader last year.
The life expectancy of people with MND usually ranges from six months to three years.
“One in 200 people gets MND,” Nable told the publication.

Nable has raised more than $100,000 for MND research since her brother (pictured) received his heartbreaking diagnosis.
‘In 1985, it was one in 500, so there is something environmental that is causing that increase. And it is important that they find a cure, because what it does to human beings is catastrophic.
“It’s the definition of sadness.”
