Former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones has backed Jason Ryles to succeed at Parramatta next year in the NRL, highlighting his diligence and ability to communicate with players.
And Jones, who is in his second stint as coach of Japan’s rugby team, would know.
He hired Ryles when he coached England and the Wallabies at the 2023 World Cup and was impressed by his desire to expand his skills and knowledge in a different code of football.
“I have no doubt he’s ready,” Jones said. The Sydney Morning Herald.
‘He has already completed his time as an assistant coach. He was always diligent and quite adventurous.
“Jason develops a good relationship with the players and is good with the coaches. He has all the attributes of a successful coach.
‘He’s also spent a lot of time with (Storm coach) Craig (Bellamy), he couldn’t be better prepared.’
Jones also said that Ryles, who this week won the race to replace Brad Arthur at the Eels, “has always been committed” and “determined to develop his career as a coach.

The 45-year-old has signed a four-year contract with Parramatta and will need to hit the ground running in 2025.
The Eels, who were NRL finalists just two years ago, will not play in the finals in September this year and also have an ageing squad.
What could work in Ryles’ favour is his impressive pedigree, having previously coached in quality systems at the Melbourne Storm and Sydney Roosters.
Eels chairman Sean McElduff is confident Ryles is the right man to lead the club forward.
“Jason’s proven track record in winning environments, combined with his passion for developing young talent, aligns perfectly with the direction we are taking,” he said.
‘We have a strong NRL squad and a group of exciting young players coming through our transition programs.
We believe Jason is the ideal person to build a strong connection within the playing group, across the club and with the passionate Parramatta Eels fan base.
