A self-proclaimed fitness expert has explained why male Olympic gymnasts always wear tight clothing when competing – and the reason may surprise you.

This comes as French pole vault star Anthony Ammirati became a global sensation when he failed to reach his target height at the Games after his manhood touched the bar at the worst possible moment.

American fitness personality Kody Karma highlighted in a video how a man’s appendix can be a hindrance to professional athletes.

Karma’s clip didn’t leave much to the imagination, as he performed a backflip while shirtless and dressed in a pair of loose shorts to illustrate how a man’s genitals react during an acrobatic move.

The clip has been a hit with her 37,000 followers on Instagram, and she also posted a similar video on TikTok.

She titled her TikTok video ‘This Is Why Gymnasts Wear Tight Clothes’ and was quickly met with enthusiastic comments (from men and women) on both social media platforms.

“I don’t know how they can walk around with those things,” one joked on TikTok.

Another posted in response: ‘My jaw is on the floor.’

Ammirati, 21, quickly became the talk of Paris, but for all the wrong reasons.

She looked set to clear 5.70 metres in the pole vault heats until a sensitive part of her body prevented her from doing so on her third attempt.

This caused the young man to walk out of the event and viewers were in hysterics on social media.

‘Anthony Ammirati failed the exam and commentators are already struggling to acknowledge what happened. ‘Help, I’m dying,’ one user posted on X.

“Bad luck, but also good flexibility,” noted another.

“Best way to lose… ego is still there,” said a third.
