Two Rockhampton grandparents and a mysterious Melburnian must have been extra kind this year, because Santa granted them their biggest Christmas wish in the form of a winning Powerball ticket.
The $100 million prize will be split between the Queensland couple, who had registered their ticket, and the Victorian winner, who may not even realize he has the division one winning ticket, purchased at a Tatts store in Darebin.
‘Are you kidding ?!’ the winning grandmother said when informed of her $50 million windfall in a phone call from The Lott immediately after Thursday night’s drawing.
‘I was expecting you to ask me if we have solar panels, not tell us we just won 50 million dollars… I’m in a state of total shock.
“On Christmas Day there will be a few more gifts under the tree.”
She said the couple hoped they could help the family, although she wasn’t sure they believed the news.
‘Now we will also spend a lot more time together. I don’t think they’ll believe us when we tell them.
